This new year promises
To be what the previous years have been
A hope, a wish
And a silent prayer
That the next year will go easier on me.

I have lost the height on my jumps,
And the width of my smile
The path behind seems long
And the road ahead longer still.

I am walking a tightrope
Of life never ending,
Wobbling and unsteady
Pulled and pushed on all sides
By those whom I call mine.
